The national symbols of Ukraine
The constitution states that the national symbols of Ukraine shall be the National Flag, the National Emblem and the National Anthem.
The Ukrainian flag consists of two horizontal stripes of equal width. The top is blue, the bottom – yellow. Blue and yellow, the colours of the sky, mountains, streams and golden fields have symbolized Kyivan Rus long before the introduction of Christianity. With the acceptance of Christianity, blue and gold were incorporated into church symbolism. After the Mongol-Tatar invasion in the 1200s the use of blue-gold was interrupted to be revived again in church ornaments and city crests some time later. The banners of the Cossacks(17 century) were blue with gold stars, a gold cross, or with pictures of saints rendered in gold. The blue and yellow flag as the national symbol was adopted in 1992 by the Verhovna Rada.
The official coat of arms of Ukraine is a gold trident on an azure background. As a state emblem the trident dates back to Kyivan Rus, when it was the coat of arms off Riuryk dynasty. The oldest examples of the trident discovered by the archaeologists on Ukrainian territory date back to the 1st century AD. At that time the trident probably served as a symbol of power in one of the tribes that later become part of the Ukrainian people. The trident was stamped on the gold and silver coins issued by Prince Volodymyr the Great(980-1015), who perhaps inherited the symbol from his ancestors as a dynastic coat of arms and passed it to his sons Sviatopolk I(1015-1019) and Yaroslav the Wise(1019-1054). On 19 February, 1992, after the restoration of Ukraine’s independence in 1991, the Supreme Council accepted the trident as the chief element in the state coat of arms. Why was the trident chosen as the emblem of Ukraine? The three points of the trident symbolize the trinity of life: Father, Mother, Child. They symbolize Might, Wisdom and Love. Besides, three is thought to be a magic number.
Ukraine’s National Anthem ,,She lives on, our Ukraine,, The music to the Ukrainian Anthem was composed by Mykhailo Verbytsky.

Hryvnia
A currency unit in Ukraine is hryvnia. It was introduced into circulation in 1996. The very first hryvnia appeared in Kyiv at the beginning of the 11th century. It was minted from pure silver, weighed 164 grams and was shaped like a hexagon. The new money appeared in the 11th century because of the economic boom that occurred in Kyiv. It stopped its existence in the 13th century when Tatar Khan Batyi’s army seized Kyiv. The second birth of hryvnia coincided with the proclamation of indepen-dence in Ukrainian National Republic in 1918. The famous Ukrainian artist Heorhiy Narbut designed the hryvnia banknote. It was abolished when the Soviet Army took Ukraine by force. The modern hryvnia banknotes are printed in demonstrations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500.The present-day hryvnia was designed by famous Ukrainian artist Vasyl Lopata. It is considered to be one of the best currency units in the world as to its design.
